Police: Youth shot, is in critical condition; juvenile detained

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Columbia Police Department taped off a street on Tuesday in a neighborhood just south of Interstate 70 near St. Charles Road.

CPD wrote on its social media at 5:52 p.m. that it was investigating a shots-fired call in the 5700 block of Canaveral Drive.

Police wrote on social media at 9:18 p.m. that a juvenile victim had a gunshot wound and was brought to an area hospital. Police wrote that the youth is in critical condition.

A juvenile was also detained near the scene.

Officers put up police tape on Canaveral Drive and appeared to have put up tape near the front yard of a home. An EMS truck, two Columbia firetrucks and more than 10 law enforcement vehicles were seen behind the police tape.

At least 13 evidence markers were seen by reporters. A car appeared to be crashed into a home at 317 Port Way. Evidence markers and additional police tape were seen around the home.

A neighbor told an ABC 17 News reporter that they had saw someone fire shots at the vehicle on Tuesday afternoon from the street. .

Police utilized a drone at the scene. An ABC 17 News reporter saw police detain someone and put them in a patrol vehicle.

Police taped off the street before the sign that indicated it was the Eastport Village subdivision.
