Tracking a few storms tomorrow, brief cooldown before weekend heat

TONIGHT: Increasing clouds with a few showers and storms before daybreak, especially east of Highway 63. Lows in the upper 60s.

TOMORROW: Scattered storms across eastern Missouri possible through late afternoon. Highs in the upper 80s with a heat index around 90.

EXTENDED: After a warmer Tuesday, I'm tracking a weak cold front moving in from the northwest that will bring the potential for showers and storms overnight into Wednesday. Overnight coverage is looking sparse, but afternoon heat in combination with forcing from the boundary could trigger a few thunderstorms on Wednesday afternoon ahead of the front. The highest potential for storms looks to be along and east of Highway 54, where a couple storms may have small hail and gusty winds. A level 1/5 severe risk is in place for Wednesday across eastern and southern Missouri. Storm chances diminish by early evening, and dew points drop significantly into the end of the week. We'll see lows in the lower 60s on Thursday and Friday mornings, with highs in the low to mid-80s with comfortable air in place. By the weekend, upper high pressure begins to move east, with the main storm track just to our north, so we'll remain hot and dry through the weekend. Highs reach the low 90s with a heat index in the upper 90s by the end of the weekend, with heat looking to hold through much of next week.
