Jefferson City Room at the Inn may move to a new location

This winter may be the last that the Jefferson City Room at the Inn operates at the First Baptist Church on Capitol Avenue.

JCRATI is an emergency, overnight homeless shelter that operates during the winter months.

But Housing the Community Jefferson City, JCRATI’s parent organization, could soon be housing the city’s homeless at a new headquarters.

After more than two years of searching for a larger location, the organization announced at a press conference Tuesday morning that it has signed an option-to-purchase agreement with the owner of 107 Adams St. and filed a zoning application for the building.

Jefferson City Transportation Committee recommends safety improvements near Moreau Heights Elementary

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ) The Jefferson City Transportation Committee recommended safety improvements to slow down vehicles near Moreau Heights Elementary School on Friday. The decision follows a December 2024 study that identified a speeding problem occurring throughout the day. About 150 students walk to and from school in the area where the study was conducted.

Jefferson City Council approves revised police hiring incentive, 911 facility study

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ) The Jefferson City Council on Tuesday unanimously approved modifying a hiring incentive for police officers. The council at its regular meeting upped the lateral transfer incentive from $10,000 to $15,000. Prior to this, the $10,00 lateral transfer was paired with a $5,000 hiring incentive for non-licensed academy recruits, according to meeting documents.
