Parking rates increasing as Jefferson City rolls out new kiosks

Drivers parking downtown Jefferson City will pay more at the meter as the city begins rolling out higher parking rates.
The city approved the rate increases in Aug. as part of a new two-tiered parking system that will gradually increase rates through 2030. The first increase went into effect Sept. 1 and will continue on that date annually.
In designated “premium areas,” the hourly on-street parking rate will increase to:
- 2026: $1 per hour
- 2027: $1.50 per hour
- 2028: $2 per hour
- 2029: $2.05 per hour
- 2030: $2.10 per hour
These rate apply to West Main Street, West Capitol Avenue, 100 block of East Capitol Avenue, West High Street, Broadway Street, Washington Street, Jefferson Street.
Outside of those premium areas, the hourly rate will remain at $1 through 2027 before increasing to $1.05 in 2028 and $1.30 in 2030.
Parking rates apply Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., excluding Jefferson City holidays. When a city holiday falls on a Saturday, the Friday before will not have parking rates attached, and if it falls on a Sunday, the following Monday will not have parking rates attached.
The rate changes are being rolled out as the city transitions from its existing parking meters to new digital Flowbird parking kiosks.
Updated signs will be installed on each block or within each parking zone as the new rates take effect.
Due to the working being completed in phases, parking rates may vary from one block to another during the transition. The city is encouraging drivers to check the parking kiosk and posted signs where they park for the current rate and time limit.
The new kiosks will accept credit and debit cards as well as coins, and drivers will also be able to use available mobile payment options.
Drivers using the kiosks will enter their license plate number when paying, eliminating the need to display a receipt on the dashboard.
Time-restricted parking will remain available at several downtown locations, with posted time limits ranging from two to 10 hours in certain areas. Drivers should check signs in the area for the applicable time limit.
Monthly parking lot rental rates will also increase through 2030, with rates rising by $6 to $14 per month, depending on the lot. The changes are expected to generate an additional $435,000 in annual revenue by the third year.
