The district said in a news release that Bryant Gladney died at the scene after the crash involving a tractor-trailer near Route Z. Gladney was going to the scene of a crash when a westbound tractor-trailer hit Gladney’s firetruck at high speed before hitting a University Hospital ambulance and the vehicle involved in the original crash, according to the release.

A U.S. district judge in Georgia on Tuesday issued an injunction against a coronavirus vaccine mandate for federal contractors. The rule had led the UM System to mandate vaccines across its four campuses and other facilities because of the millions of federal dollars it receives for research and other purposes. The UM System carved out exemptions for religious and medical reasons and for those who don’t work closely with others in a federally-funded job.

The crash killed Skylar Maddox, 25, of Columbia, police said in a news release. Susan Hanel, 72, was arrested on suspicion of driving while impaired by drugs, resulting in death; leaving the scene of a crash; armed criminal action; driving without a valid license and careless and imprudent driving.
