Columbia Public Schools to start two hours late; JC Schools on snow routes in Callaway

Lingering ice and snow will have Columbia Public Schools students going to class late Friday.

The district said in a message to families Thursday afternoon that schools will start two hours late to allow buses to drive in daylight and in the interest of safety. The Jefferson City School District said on Twitter that it will have buses on snow routes in Callaway County on Friday morning.

Vienna schools will be closed. Eldon and Versailles will run on snow routes only.

Sleet, freezing rain and snow fell on Mid-Missouri starting late Wednesday and continued into Thursday afternoon before finally leaving the area. Several schools were closed Thursday.

Patchy freezing drizzle could also cause slick spots Friday morning, according to forecasts.

State highways ranged from mostly clear to partly covered late Thursday afternoon, according to the Missouri Department of Transportation's traveler information map.
