Police confirm man shot at east Columbia apartments

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Columbia police have confirmed a man was shot and transported to a local hospital in a personally owned vehicle.

Police converged on an apartment complex in east Columbia to investigate what neighbors said was a shooting.

An officer confirmed they found several shell casings on scene.

About 10 police cruisers and a crime scene investigation van were called to Hawks Ridge Apartments off Talon Road at about 4 p.m. It wasn't immediately clear why so many police were at the scene, but crime scene tape was up.

Detectives, officers, and the crime scene investigative unit was on scene trying to piece together what happened for several hours.

A person who lives there said he saw three people get out of a vehicle with guns and walked toward the complex shooting. The man said he saw a victim get loaded into a car, which then sped off. The man said he did not want to be identified, citing safety concerns.

Police took a man into custody at the scene.
