Bench trial to be held for Mid-Missouri police chief accused of assault
CALLAWAY COUNTY, Mo. (KMIZ)
A bench trial will be held next month for a Mid-Missouri police chief accused of assault.
A judge scheduled the trial for Kevin Suedmeyer on July 21st.
Prosecutors charged him with domestic assault last year for allegedly hitting his son.
According to court documents, his son called Callaway County Joint Communications about a domestic disturbance at the 6100 block of Timber Hills Lance.
The 15-year-old told investigators that Suedmeyer was upset with the teen’s grades and showed the investigator a text that read “When I get Home – leave the dogs inside & come outside… We are going to settle this once and for all.” When the 15-year-old got home Suedmeyer did a leg sweep to the boy.
In December, a judge picked a special prosecutor for the case. Boone County assistant prosecutor Olufunmike Owoso will represent the state, according to court records. Suedmeyer's case is being heard in Boone County.
Suedmeyer was suspended as the Auxvasse Police Chief after the incident.
City leaders were asked if Suedmeyer is still suspended and ABC 17 News has not heard back.
Suedmeyer's tenure includes a city probe into his social media use in June 2020. He was briefly suspended and subsequently reinstated.
