The suspended Auxvasse Police Department chief entered a plea of not guilty during a court hearing earlier this week.

Kevin R. Suedmeyer pleaded not guilty Wednesday to a misdemeanor charge of fourth-degree domestic assault. Investigators say Suedmeyer hit his 15-year-old son on Dec. 7 at a home in the 6100 block of Timber Hills Lane in Fulton.

According to court documents, the teen told investigators Suedmeyer was upset over his grades at school.

The Auxvasse Police Department suspended Suedmeyer two days later.

According to the Missouri Department of Public Safety, Suedmeyer holds a valid Class A peace officer license. ABC 17 News is told Suedmeyer is still commissioned by the Auxvasse Police Department.

In December, a judge picked a special prosecutor for the case. Boone County assistant prosecutor Olufunmike Owoso will represent the state, according to court records. Suedmeyer's case is being heard in Boone County.

Another court hearing for Suedmeyer is scheduled for March 9.
