COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Fulton Police Department says it has identified “persons of interest” in the homicide of 17-year-old Mason Sheets.

FPD wrote in a press release that its persons of interest are juveniles who are not from Fulton. Their names cannot be released because of their ages, police wrote. Police identified the juveniles after the Mid-Missouri Major Case Squad followed up on more than 250 leads, the release says. Fulton Police Chief Bill Ladwig says the number of leads they received was standard for a case like this but was unable to provide further specifics on the investigation.

Sheets was found on Jan. 19 with gunshot wounds in a vehicle near South Business 54 and Commons Drive. Sheets died from his injuries at the scene, police wrote. A girl at the scene was taken into custody, police said last week.

A vehicle of interest previously identified was found burned in Columbia last week.

Anyone with information about the case is encouraged to call Callaway County CrimeStoppers at 573-592-2474 or on the sheriff's office's website.
