Vehicle linked to Fulton teen’s homicide found burned

FULTON, Mo. (KMIZ)

The vehicle of interest believed to be involved in the homicide of 17-year-old Mason Sheets was found burned.

Fulton police said on Friday morning the stolen maroon 2022 Jeep Compass was found burned in Rocky Fork Lakes Conservation Area north of Columbia on Thursday.

In a release, police said the Jeep was found and reported by third-party early Thursday.

Online Columbia dispatch logs state firefighters responded to a vehicle fire at 1505 E Peabody Road, part of the conservation area at 5:33 a.m. Thursday morning.

Fulton police previously said the Jeep was stolen from Columbia on Jan. 13.

Sheets was found on Sunday night after being shot near South Business 54 and Commons Drive.

The Mid-Missouri Major Case Squad has followed up on close to 200 leads, according to Fulton Police as of Friday morning.
