Murder suspect arrested, charged with drug distribution while out on bond
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
A Columbia man charged with felony murder in connection with a January overdose death was charged this week with allegedly selling drugs while he was out on bond.
Prosecutors charged Sean D. Rogers, 40, with felony drug distribution and two counts of illegally having a gun on Monday. The charges caused his $25,000 bond in the murder case to be revoked and Rogers remained in the Boone County Jail without bond on Thursday.
A Columbia police officer stopped Rogers in a car with excessive tent near the roundabout at Range Line Street and Route VV in north Columbia on Friday, according to a probable cause statement. The officer found methamphetamine, a scale, a shotgun, a handgun and a possible Molotov cocktail in the vehicle, the statement says.
Rogers had been out on bond after being arrested and charged with second-degree murder in September for a Jan. 8 overdose death in south Columbia.
Police were called to a residence where they found a man dead and a bag with methamphetamine, according to a probable cause statement. A witness told investigators that the dead man had used the drug before he died and that Rogers had sold him the drug.
Messages between the dead man and Rogers corroborated the woman's story, police say.
No hearings have been scheduled in the drug distribution case.
