Columbia Housing Authority secures $3.5 million in tax credits for Providence Walkway Apartments redevelopment

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
The Columbia Housing Authority on Thursday announced it will get $3.5 million in federal Low-Income Housing Tax Credits from the Missouri Housing Development Commission for the Providence Walkway Apartments project.
A press release says that the funding was approved during a Sept. 24 meeting and represents the “final financial component” to begin renovating 25 affordable housing units.
“This funding is a direct result of the City of Columbia's commitment to affordable housing,” CHA Board Chairman Bob Hutton said in the release.
The release says the city has contributed $3.4 million to the project through funds from the American Rescue Plan Act, HOME and Community Development Block Grants. The city approved $3 million in ARPA funds during an April meeting.
The CHA said in the release that it expects the Providence Walkway Project to impact more than 400 people during the next 25 years.
Previous reporting indicates that the project includes tearing down outdated housing units on the west side of Providence Road and replacing them with new units. The CHA previously indicated it expects the project to be completed by late 2026.
