Plush Lounge to “close indefinitely” following deadly weekend shooting
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Plush Lounge announced on Wednesday it's "closing indefinitely" after a shooting outside the club left one man dead and four others injured on Sunday.
Plush Loung informed the public of this closing on their Facebook page after being in business for the last five years
Plush Lounge said it offers its condolences to the community as well as the family and friends of the victim Melvin Hooker III for the loss of their loved one and the incident has had a severe impact.
Plush went on to say it will close indefinitely while it works with authorities investigating the incident on Sunday.
The business also said it is committed to using this time to reevaluate how it can ensure the safety of those who decide to come to its business.
This closure also comes as Kimo Deandre Spivey is set to appear in court on Thursday at 1:00 p.m. for a bond hearing for his alleged role in Sunday's shooting.
Spivey is being charged with second-degree murder, armed-criminal action, unlawful use of a weapon, and unlawful possession of a gun.
According to a probable cause statement, a witness told police Hooker III was involved in an argument with a group of people and then went to the passenger side door of his car to get a gun.
The witness then allegedly told police that Spivey approached her and Hooker with a gun in his hand. The two exchanged words and then she allegedly told police she saw “Spivey shoot and kill Hooker,” according to court documents. Police say Spivey also had a gunshot wound and was taken to University Hospital.
Sunday's incident is not the first time police have responded to Plush Lounge for shooting in the parking lot area.
in June of 2021, police arrested Damar Harris for allegedly shooting a gun into a bush from a parked vehicle while in the parking lot. In September 2021, police responded to the Plush Lounge parking lot after a dozen shots were fired. Then in November, one woman was shot in the area and police found property damage. In June of 2022, one woman suffered non-life threatening injuries after she was shot.
