Four downtown Columbia shooting investigations underway in a little over two weeks

COLUMBIA, MO. (KMIZ)

Officers are continuing to investigate after two people were shot in downtown Columbia as many people were out celebrating homecoming Saturday night.

The Columbia Police Department was seen investigating the area from Ninth to Tenth Streets and Cherry to Locust Streets last night.

In a press release, the Columbia Police Department identified the two victims in the shooting as a 31-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman. Both victims were in stable condition when EMS arrived on the scene.

CPD also confirmed a second shooting in downtown Columbia early Sunday morning around 5 a.m.

A little over three weeks ago two people were shot at a shooting along the 10th Block of 5th Street. A week later, there was a shooting on 5th Street between Broadway and Cherry Street.

Matthew Bernharet, an employee at Shot Bar said he saw many people running from the scene in a panic.

"A few people scattered from the area, running in a lot of directions. I didn't hear people scream which was the weird thing I didn't hear anyone scream people just looked around and ran in all different directions."

Jeff Pitts, a spokesman for CPD said it increases its police presence downtown on busy weekends.

"We have patrol officers, we have canines during the day times, and other certain times we may have street crimes unit out obviously detectives. We have a lot of officers out to ensure the safety of the public."

Police say there is no information on suspects in any of the past four shootings.

Pitts said the department is working to solve each incident.

"The department really wants to hold the people committing crimes accountable for their actions. We all want to feel safe were we live, work, study, and its one of those things we take very seriously."
