Tracking dangerous heat continuing into the start of Labor Day weekend

TONIGHT: Mostly clear and muggy with lows in the upper 70s.

TOMORROW: Mostly sunny, hot, and humid with highs in the upper 90s. Heat index around 105°.

EXTENDED: Dangerous heat continues as high pressure centered over the Mid-Atlantic works back to the west, putting us squarely under southwest flow and pushing dew points up into the lower 70s. These warmer dew points in combination with highs in the upper 90s will yield heat index values between 103-107 degrees through Saturday. A Weather Alert Day will be in effect through Saturday evening as we cross into extreme heat threshold. Saturday afternoon into Sunday may bring a chance of at least spotty thunderstorms across northern Missouri as the ridge moves west, but the better chance for a complex of storms to bring cooling rain will lie to our east along the Mississippi River on Sunday night. We may have some residual cloud cover over our area in response to that on Monday, cooling temperatures into the low 90s. However, the hotter than average pattern looks to hold for much of next week with little relief until potentially next weekend.
