Mizzou softball’s season ends in a shutout loss in the first round of the SEC Tournament

ATHENS, Ga. (KMIZ)
Despite a stellar outing from sophomore pitcher Marissa McCann, the Mizzou softball team couldn't provide the run-support necessary to move past the first round of the SEC Tournament, on Tuesday. The Tigers fell to Ole Miss, 1-0, to end their season.
McCann gave her team every opportunity it needed. She threw for 5.0 innings and only allowed one earned run on five hits, while striking out three batters. She held the Rebel bats at bay, only tossing that one mistake in the first inning, however, her team couldn't provide enough run support.
Mizzou had an opportunity for some heroics in the top of the seventh, when both seniors Kara Daly and Mya Dodge managed to draw walks from Brianna Lopez. But, with two outs and the tying run in scoring position, true freshman Abbie Wilhelm watched the final strikeout of the game come right at her to end their run in Athens, Georgia.
MU didn't get out-hit that badly, only 5-3. But, the team struggled with runners in scoring position, going 0-5 against Ole Miss. But, Lopez was incredible for the Rebels, as she pitched a complete-game shutout with seven strikeouts and just three hits allowed.
The loss marks the end of the road for head coach Larissa Anderson and company in 2025. The Tigers would've needed to win five games in five days, landing in the SEC Tournament Championship, in order to become eligible for a spot in the NCAA Tournament.
Mizzou finished the season with a 25-31 overall record and a 6-19 mark in Southeastern Conference action. It will be the first time since 2006 that the Tigers have not made an NCAA Regional.
