COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Luigi Mangione pleaded guilty Friday to federal charges in the shooting death of a health insurance CEO.

Mangione told the courtroom that "I shot Mr. Thompson" as he said he intended to plead guilty to the charges in federal court in New York City, according to ABC News. Mangione was accused of shooting UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in December 2024. He had previously pleaded not guilty.

Prosecutors say Mangione stalked Thompson outside his hotel during a UnitedHealthcare conference.

Mangione faces life in prison on the federal stalking charges. Federal terror charges against him had already been dismissed.

Talk of a possible guilty plea surfaced earlier this week after a filing by his defense team.
