Tracking extreme summer heat to start the weekend and isolated storm chances

TODAY: I'm tracking another extremely hot afternoon as air temperatures get into the mid-90s and high humidity drives heat index values into the 105-110 degree range during the afternoon hours. Due to this, today is an ABC 17 Stormtrack Weather Alert Day. Winds are expected to be out of the south at 8-12 mph, and any storm chances will land in the late afternoon to early evening hours, being isolated to scattered at most.

TONIGHT: I'm tracking isolated storm chances overnight as temperatures gradually drop into the mid to upper 70s by the end of the night. Winds will continue to be out of the south at 5-10 mph.

EXTENDED: I'm tracking a gradual increase in storm chances throughout the day Saturday, but the main story will still be the heat, as heat index values still have the potential to reach past the 105-degree mark. This is why the ABC 17 Stormtrack Weather Alert Day is set to continue until Saturday evening. Saturday night into Sunday, storm chances are expected to continue as a front passes through the area, but the best chances for more widespread activity will be overnight Sunday into Monday. With this, relief from the heat can finally be expected, with temperatures by Monday afternoon only getting into the low 80s. Warmer temperatures are expected to gradually return, with upper 80s expected by Tuesday, and low 90s expected by Wednesday before another drop in temperatures arrives Thursday.
