Mizzou freshman duo makes D1Softball’s freshman watch list

KMIZ

A former Fr. Tolton Trailblazer is among a pair of Mizzou true freshmen to earn the first preseason honors of their college careers.

Columbia's own Madison Uptegrove and Saniya Hill have both been named to the D100 freshman watch list for the upcoming 2025 season.

Uptegrove, the former MSHSAA leader in career home runs, rewrote Fr. Tolton's record books during her high school career. The 5-foot-5 infielder and outfielder owns the program record for batting average (.528), runs (188), hits (211), doubles (63), triples (17), home runs (48), RBIs (192) and total bases (452), which ranks second all-time in MSHSAA history.

The four-time All-State selection also competed for Kansas City's Select Fastpitch program, batting .338 with four home runs, 18 RBIs, 21 runs and 11 stolen bases.

According to Extra Innings, Hill is the No. 19-ranked prospect in the entire 2024 class. The 5-foot-7 third baseman and utility player broke her high school's program record for batting average (.457), was honored as a 2023 USA Softball High Performance Program (HPP) Top Performer and made the cut for the United States Junior Women's National Team U-17/18 roster.

The three-time All-Conference selection was also a member of the Texas Glory softball club, the No. 5-ranked program in the nation, and posted a .487 batting average for them in the 2023 campaign.

Hill and Uptegrove will get their first chance to make their college debuts when Mizzou Softball begins its 2025 season on Feb. 7 at the NFCA Division I Leadoff Classic in Clearwater, Florida.
