A man who was found injured near a vacant house that burned in the 2800 block of Rock Quarry Road earlier this month has been charged with second-degree arson.

A warrant has been requested for Anthony Duane Giboney, 61, and a $10,000 bond was set. He is not currently on the Boone County Jail roster. A court date has not been set.

Court documents indicate that Giboney and his dog had been hit by a car on Nov. 3. He was allegedly “combative with medics and not transported to the hospital,” according to the probable cause statement. The statement says Giboney had been living in the abandoned house. His dog died and Giboney tried to get a ride back to the building with the remains, according to the statement.

Giboney was found by firefighters and appeared to be intoxicated, according to the probable cause statement. He was apparently covered in soot and was brought to a hospital for treatment.

According to the probable cause statement, the fire marshal claimed the fire was arson and the fire was stated front bedroom next to the remains of a dog. There was no electricity in the building, the statement says.

The owner of the building allegedly told law enforcement that he knew Giboney was living in the building and allowed him to continue squatting. He told law enforcement that he did not give permission to set the property on fire, the statement says.

Giboney was also charged on Nov. 1 with second-degree assault and four-degree assault for allegedly trying to stab a man at a Dollar General in Columbia. He was arrested at the time and his bond was reduced to $5,000, which was posted. He is not currently listed on the Boone County Jail roster.

A preliminary hearing for that case is set for 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 28
