Missouri Senate OKs limits on race education in schools

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) — Missouri educators would face limits on how to teach public K-12 students about race under a bill advancing in the state Senate. The Republican-led Senate gave the measure initial approval Wednesday. The proposal is the latest among of GOP-led efforts nationwide to crack down on what some conservative politicians have dubbed “critical race theory.” The Missouri legislation would prohibit schools from making teachers say individuals are inferior, should get advantages or bear collective guilt because of their race. Democrats say it will discourage teachers from talking about slavery and Black history. It’s expected to get another vote of approval and move to the GOP-led House.
