Slick spots possible this morning
WEDNESDAY: This system looks to make slow progress across the Midwest this morning into this afternoon, keeping precipitation around for much of the day. Places where we linger at or below freezing this morning could see a few slick spots, especially on elevated roadways. Afternoon highs will only top out in the upper 30s . We’ll see this cold rain start to transition back to a wintry mix later this afternoon
TONIGHT: That wintry mix will eventually turn over to mostly snow as colder air moves in. Our northwestern counties have the best chance at seeing some accumulations, but we could see some slick spots with some freezing drizzle mixing in on some elevated surfaces like bridges and overpasses just about area-wide by Thursday morning.
EXTENDED: This system won’t be done with us on Thursday, even though rain/snow will linger into the morning. The wider-reaching impact will be the bitterly cold weather moving in, especially for this time of year. Highs on Thursday won’t get out of the 30s and wind chills toward the evening will be in the 20s for any brave trick-or-treaters. Be sure to bundle up Thursday if you plan on battling overnight lows in the 20s with a breeze out of the north around 10 mph . We begin a slow climb out of the cold on Friday with the return of meaningful sunshine and highs in the 40s . We’ll be back in the 50s by this weekend.
