Tracking an icy close to 2020

THURSDAY: The day is going to be misleadingly quiet. Temperatures will struggle to warm up much, only topping out in the middle 30’s. Don’t let the sunshine fool you today, though.

TONIGHT: Our next system pushes in tonight and looks to bring a widespread mix of freezing rain and rain to the viewing area. The timing looks to be around 10PM south, and shortly after midnight near I-70. Slippery conditions will develop quickly, so be very careful on the roads tonight. Lows will fall to near 30. EXTENDED: That freezing rain will last into tomorrow morning before mixing with a little more snow towards the afternoon. By the time this system moves on, ice accumulations of a quarter-inch will be possible along with a dusting of snow. Slick roads are expected from tonight through a good portion of Friday. Travel will be tough. Another shot at snow moves through Saturday, bringing a shot at refreshing the dusting on the ground during the day. Things quiet down Sunday as temperatures climb back into the 40’s, where they look to stay into next week.
