Tracking severe storms this afternoon, quieter night ahead

THIS AFTERNOON: An ABC 17 Stormtrack Weather Alert Day is in effect for severe storms this afternoon, primarily south and east of Hwy 54. Isolated to scattered storms may redevelop in the mid to late afternoon between 3 and 6 p.m. with all severe hazards possible, including hail larger than 1 inch, winds greater than 60 mph, and a few tornadoes. Storms will track out of the area before 7 p.m. this evening, but remnant flooding will still be a concern.

TONIGHT: Partly cloudy and soggy, with temperatures tumbling into the upper 40s by the end of the night. Winds from the northwest will be steady at 5 to 15 mph, possibly gusting as high as 25 mph.

EXTENDED: Tuesday will start dry, but grab an umbrella for more scattered storms midday into the evening tomorrow. No severe storms are expected, but flooding will be a low concern through late Tuesday. We'll see a much-needed break from the rain the rest of the week with comfortable temperatures in the 60s, and a mild warmup into the 70s this weekend.
