Tracking a beautiful start to the New Year and chances for storms

TONIGHT: Partly cloudy skies with temperatures dropping down into the upper 40's by midnight. If you're going out to any New Year's Eve parties, make sure to grab a light jacket just in case.

TOMORROW: We're starting off the New Year with temperatures possibly reaching the 60's in the afternoon. We could experience some fog earlier in the morning, but it will be pretty patchy and not horribly dense. Skies are looking to be partly cloudy, and calm.

EXTENDED: Monday we are looking at increasing chances for widespread rain and thunderstorms. Timing wise, we could see some light showers in the morning, but the heavier rainfall is in the afternoon. This is where we could experience the thunder along with the system, but nothing severe is expected for this area. The chances for more severe weather increase in the south eastern part of Missouri. For the rest of the week, a cold front is moving in Tuesday night. This is dropping temperatures back down into the low 30's for the majority of the week. By the end we could see temperatures creep back up into the 40's. So as the week goes on, we'll see temperatures starting to return to normal.
