A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for counties north of I-70 as these areas have the greatest chance to receive multiple inches of snowfall. Accumulations are still expected for the entire area.

SETUP:

Low pressure across northern Texas has produced a wide swath of rain and snow this afternoon over Oklahoma and Kansas, and will arrive in Mid-Missouri tonight. Given the timing, temperatures will likely drop below freezing after sunset tonight, allowing rain to change over to snow quickly.

TIMELINE:

Rain will likely start moving into western and southwestern portions of the state shortly after sunset. Rain shifts to snow between 8:00 and 10:00 p.m. Monday. Snow showers continue overnight, with the potential of a band of higher snowfall rates setting up somewhere along or north of I-70. The most impactful snow will work its way east by sunrise Tuesday, but there could be some lingering flurries through mid-late morning.

IMPACTS:

Snow amounts will likely end up in the dusting to 2" range, with isolated higher amounts in a stronger band of snow rates. Where that sets up is still somewhat unclear, but those locations in the band will see upwards of 3" or more through Tuesday morning. With temperatures dropping into the 20s Tuesday morning, we can expect slick spots on untreated roads, and slippery bridges. Things should improve by Tuesday afternoon with highs getting into the upper 30s.

PREPARE:

Make sure to have the ABC 17 Stormtrack Weather app downloaded to keep an eye on where snow is falling ahead of your morning commute on Tuesday. There you'll also find any closings, cancellations, or delays. If you must travel during the thick of snowfall, make sure to have a fully charged cell phone and an emergency kit in your car.
