Tracking widespread showers this morning, and storms tonight

TODAY: Tuesday brings the long awaited return of rain to the forecast. Low-level winds are pumping in moisture this morning, and will spread showers and rumbles of thunder across mid-Missouri through the morning hours. A general decrease in coverage comes this afternoon, but some south of I-70 may see off and on showers through the dinner hour. Otherwise, the rain will come to an end likely around sundown, before round two moves in overnight. Today's rain and cloud cover keeps highs in the low-to-mid 70s.

TONIGHT: A cold front will approach from the northwest tonight, bringing storms along the front, somewhere around 2-4 a.m. in the north. Rain and thunder will be widespread along the front, with an isolated chance for a strong storm within the line. Instability will be limited thanks to the nighttime passage of the front, but enough wind in the atmosphere will be present to keep storms organized. Most wont see severe impacts, but it's possible that we could see some hail or gusty winds from this line. Rain and clouds will keep temperatures relatively warm overnight.

EXTENDED: With a wind shift and a cloudy start, temperatures will be limited to low 70s for highs. We'll likely be sunny by Wednesday afternoon. In total, a widespread quarter to half an inch of rain is expected, with some isolated totals possibly near 1 inch. Cooler air settles in the rest of the week, with sunshine and 60s expected Thursday and Friday. A slight chance for rain comes along another cold front from the north on Saturday, but it likely doesn't run into enough moisture until it's south of mid-MO, keeping us mostly dry this weekend as well. Saturday we're topping out in the mid-70s, before falling behind the front into the 60s again to start next week.
