Tracking brutal heat today, rain chances to start the workweek

Today: Another hot and humid day with highs in the mid-90s and excessive moisture bringing the heat index up to triple digits. Widely scattered storms are possible across southeast Missouri again this afternoon.

Tomorrow: A slow-moving cold front digs in early; don't expect much relief for Monday though. Highs reach near 90 and moisture pooling ahead of the front will easily send the heat index to near 100 degrees. A round of storms is possible along the front by the afternoon with localized downpours as the main impact.

Extended: Timing on Monday's cold front is still quite uncertain this close to the event with storms possibly lasting through early Tuesday. Should the front stall even further into early Wednesday, we'll see more chances for on and off showers. Regardless, a cooling trend sets in behind the rain with highs near or below average midweek. A drier pattern for the second half of the week will likely usher in another steady warmup back to the 90s.
