Tracking blistering heat over the weekend

This Afternoon: Mostly sunny skies with highs in the mid-90s. Increased moisture today will bring the heat index up to 100 degrees.

Tonight: Skies remain mostly clear and southerly winds keep conditions stifling overnight with lows in the mid-upper 70s.

Extended: A stationary boundary to the southeast may be enough to fuel a pop-up storm on Friday afternoon near the I-44 corridor but much of the area will stay hot & muggy. Heat ramps up further into the weekend with a heat advisory in effect for Saturday. Temperatures will dwell in the mid-90s and oppressive moisture will push the heat index between 100-104. Central Missouri faces the same temperatures Sunday but moisture eases a bit to bring down the heat index a few degrees. Relief finally arrives early next week as a cold front is tracking through the region on Monday afternoon. This system may bring widespread rain though highs still manage to remain at or above average next week.
