Tracking showers and storms tomorrow, intense heat this weekend

TONIGHT: Light showers are possible near the Lake of the Ozarks and I-44 through the evening, but most will stay dry. Lows fall to the upper 60s. Scattered showers pick back up after midnight, becoming more widespread by sunrise tomorrow.

TOMORROW: Widespread showers and thunderstorms are expected throughout the day, with mild temperatures in the 70s. Rain becomes spottier in the evening, but will linger through Friday night. Isolated flash flooding is possible, with rain totals from half an inch to an inch and a half of rainfall.

EXTENDED: Storms exit early Saturday, but may linger south of Hwy 50 during the day. Dangerous heat will quickly follow, with a heat index in the upper 90s to near 100 degrees by Saturday afternoon. The heat will be worst in our western counties closest to a dome of high pressure. Sunday and Monday are ABC 17 Stormtrack Weather Alert Days as this heat expands areawide, pushing the heat index up to 105 in the afternoons. The heat dome will weaken somewhat midweek, but the heat index remains in the upper 90s to 100 degrees from Tuesday through Thursday. Rain chances will return late next week and gradually cool temperatures to around average.
