Tracking a stormy Father’s Day with severe storms possible

TODAY: I'm tracking a widespread line of showers and storms moving into Mid-Missouri during the morning hours, bringing heavy downpours, lightning, and potentially gusty winds as temperatures walking out the door will be in the upper 60s. A brief break in precipitation can be expected closer to lunch, but by 3-5 pm as temperatures get into the upper 70s where the first round of storms fell, redevelopment of storms, some of which could be strong enough to pose a threat of severe conditions, is expected along and south of I-70. Due to the risk of flooding this morning and the risk of afternoon/evening severe storms, an ABC 17 Stormtrack Weather Alert Day will be in effect for the entirety of Sunday.

TONIGHT: I'm tracking storms exiting the I-44 corridor by 9-10 P.M., thus marking the end of our severe threat. Clouds will begin to exit overnight as winds shift back into the north at 5-10 mph, gusting up to 15 mph, which will help temperatures cool into the low 60s and upper 50s by the end of the night.

EXTENDED: I'm tracking mostly dry and cooler conditions for Monday afternoon as cloud cover continues to exit the region. Temperatures are only expected to get into the mid-70s before warming up slightly further into the upper 70s by Tuesday afternoon, thanks to continued sunshine. A brief round of showers and storms could be expected for some Tuesday night, lingering into Wednesday morning, but sunshine will quickly return by the afternoon hours. Temperatures will gradually return to the low 80s at this point, continuing to warm into the low to mid 80s each afternoon to end the week, but with this will also come more shots at showers and storms across the area. The most likely chance to observe more widespread activity is expected by Friday and Saturday to kick off next weekend.
