Tracking a brief break in activity before more storm chances arrive

TODAY: I'm tracking dry, sunny weather for most this afternoon as winds blow out of the north at 8-12 mph and temperatures warm into the mid-70s. The only chance for precipitation will be potential isolated showers and lightning near I-44 this afternoon.

TONIGHT: I'm tracking a clear and cool evening as winds continue to blow out of the northeast at 5-10 mph and temperatures drop into the upper 40s.

EXTENDED: I'm tracking a mostly sunny and mild weekend, with temperatures warming into the mid-70s each afternoon. The weekend will start sunny on Saturday, but on Sunday, more cloud cover is expected throughout the day. This is due to a potential of strong to severe storms Sunday night, bringing mostly a damaging wind threat into Missouri. These storms will weaken and have less impact as they move east overnight into early Monday morning. Rain is expected to linger into Monday morning, and how long this rain lingers will determine how much of a severe a threat can be expected by Monday afternoon. If rain can quickly exit, this region will be most conducive to severe weather as the low passes by. With the potential for both the risk of severe storms late Sunday night and during Monday afternoon, an ABC 17 Stormtrack Weather Alert Day will be in effect for this period of time.
