Tracking overnight severe storms

TODAY: Skies remain mostly cloudy this afternoon. Expect highs in the upper 70s, about 10 degrees warmer than yesterday, with winds from the south at about 10-15 mph sustained.

TONIGHT: ABC17 Stormtrack Weather Alert Day is in effect for tonight, as a round of severe storms is expected overnight tonight, into early Tuesday morning. For all the details, visit our ABC17 Stormtrack Weather Alert Day Blog. Storms will arrive after sunset, and bring a line of wind, hail, and possible tornadoes to the area overnight.

EXTENDED: Behind this line, things are increasingly quiet and clear through the day on Tuesday. Highs reach near 80 again with south winds and afternoon sunshine. Wednesday brings another round of storms as an area of low pressure and an attached warm front move into the region. Generally, a chance for strong to severe storms comes again Wednesday afternoon and evening south of the warm front. The chance for severe weather looks to focus south of I-70, and east of HWY 54. Areas like Gasconade, Phelps, and Maries currently look like the area of greatest concern, but areas as far north and west as Jefferson City and Columbia will see a severe risk as well. All types of severe weather will be possible. Quieter and cooler weather fills in for the rest of the week into the weekend with low 70s forecast Thursday through Sunday.
