WHAT’S GOING AROUND: Doctors seeing cases of upper respiratory infections, flu and COVID-19

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Here is a roundup of the illnesses doctors say are spreading around Mid-Missouri.

Jefferson City Medical Group Express Care Fulton

Dwight Jones with the Jefferson City Medical Group Express Care in Fulton says doctors there are seeing more upper respiratory infections.

Jone says at their clinic they are seeing mild to moderate flu cases along with step throat.

As far as COVID-19, Jones says they are seeing a few cases.

Boone Health Moberly

Doctors at Boone Health in Moberly say they have recently seen many COVID-19 infections.

Doctors there say those patients have more flu-like symptoms with fever, chills, body aches, cough and sore throat.

There are also patients experiencing cases of influenza Type A with similar symptoms.

However, doctors say they have not seen many influenza Type B cases.

MU Health Care clinics

Dr. Laura Morris with MU Health Care says they have seen a drop in influenza cases but there are still cases spreading around the community.

Morris says cases of COVID-19 remain present but doctors are relieved that hospitalizations did not climb above manageable levels.

The risk of severe COVID-19 continues to be highest in older patients, Morris says, and those types of patients can benefit from treatment with anti-virals.

She says, there are plenty of respiratory viruses spreading in schools and among adults and their clinics remain busy seeing patients with those types of viruses.

Morris wants to remind you if you're sick to stay home, cover your cough and wash your hands.
