Chiefs give update on OC Eric Bieniemy, following his wife’s shooting

Mia Bieniemy, the wife of Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, is doing 'much better,' after getting shot multiple times in the couple's home on Sunday, according to Kansas City head coach Andy Reid.
Following the first day of full-team practice at training camp, Coach Reid gave an update on the freighting news that came out on Monday. He said that Mia is now out of the Intensive Care Unit and is making progress from where she was.
"We're happy about that and Eric is still with her and that part's important that that's taking place," Reid said.
Bieniemy was at training camp on Sunday, after making his big return to KC as the offensive coordinator for the 2026 season. However, he, obviously, had to leave St. Joseph to be with his wife in Virginia.
Coach Reid was asked about how the team is adjusting to life without Bieniemy in practice.
"That's a catch 22, you slight the coaches that are out here, but Eric's a big part of this and so love having him here. But, right now it's important that he takes care of business. Everybody knows that. So, everybody's game is picked up and they're working hard and you know Eric will be back soon enough to jump in there and and do his thing," Reid said.
As of now, there is now timeline on when Bieniemy will return to the team, but Reid said that is the last thing on anybody's mind.
"I just want to make sure [Mia's] taken care of and Eric Jr., too. So, he's got the other part of that that he's got to sort out, so just let him take care of that. We stay in touch with them and keep abreast of everything that's going on. He's got the tape he can watch in whatever spare time he's got there," the leader of the Chiefs said.
This all comes after Mia was shot multiple times and taken to a hospital on Sunday night at around 7:30 p.m., according to the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office.
Elijah Zion Bieniemy, the couple's 27-year-old son, was arrested and charged with malicious wounding, use of a firearm in commission of a felony and discharge of a firearm inside a dwelling.
