Wife of Chiefs OC Eric Bieniemy allegedly shot by their son

ASHBURN, Va. (KQTV)

From staff and KQ2 reports

The wife of Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy was shot in the couple's home Sunday night in Virginia.

According to the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office, Mia Bieniemy was shot multiple times and taken to a hospital on Sunday night, as deputies responded to the Bieniemys' home around 7:30 p.m.

Elijah Zion Bieniemy, the couple's 27-year-old son, was arrested and charged with malicious wounding, use of a firearm in commission of a felony and discharge of a firearm inside a dwelling. He is being held in the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center without bond.

Following the conclusion of Monday's training camp practice, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid addressed the news during his press conference.

"Our hearts go out to Eric Bieniemy and his family, our thoughts and prayers are with them,” Reid said. “I can’t get into details on it, but things happen sometimes, and Eric will work through it. He has a great support group here, as does his family, as needed. We’ll just let time take care of it from there.”

"Mia is stable, which is a plus ... So is Eric Junior, and that's all important," Reid went on to say. "We all love EB, and you hate seeing these kinds of things happen. There’s always a blessing in there somewhere; I know things will work out.”

Bieniemy was not at practice on Monday, and Reid said there is no timetable for his return, as he supports his wife and family.

Bieniemy was in his first training camp back with Coach Reid, after previously serving as the offensive coordinator from 2018-2022.

ESPN's Nate Taylor was first on the story.
