Beyond the Game: Helias soccer standout Liza Kemna

Helias Catholic soccer star Liza Kemna went 'Beyond the Game' with ABC 17 Sports Director Nathalie Jones, as she has big dreams for her soccer career.

Nathalie Jones: "What's up everyone? We're at Helias Catholic High School going beyond the game with soccer standout Liza Kemna. Liza, what is it about you, what qualities make you so good at this sport?

Liza Kemna: I think just like growing up with my family. But, all my siblings have done sports and stuff, so just seeing them do that grind and they've all gone off to college for it at some point. So, just seeing them do that grind, I've grown to love it, love the game. Just like the determination, I feel like really like helps me like push far push farther I guess."

Nathalie: "Yeah, you're so vocal on the field. Where, where's that vocal-ness come for you? Have you always been kind of a leader?" 

Liza: "I've always actually when I was younger, I've always been like quiet and when I moved - I had a big move from Florida to Missouri - so I feel like having to like get out of my shell and I've always played center back my whole life, so just being that like natural leading standpoint where you have to talk the most and I think I just have like a lot of like passion and I just-- I don't like to lose.

Nathalie: "Moving from Florida to Missouri, I mean, what was the biggest change there for you, my goodness?"

Liza: "Well, obviously the weather is crazy, but I'm really grateful for it. A lot of our family lives in Missouri, we're naval, so we moved around the coast and then we came back to Missouri, but it was a good change. I do miss Florida, so I get to visit my sister and go back every once in a while.

Nathalie: "So, with the game of soccer, what are some of your goals with the sport? How do you hope to impact people with this?" 

Liza: "I hope to impact my teammates positively, of course, and just like leave an impact on them and I really hope to play in college and if that doesn't work out, then I know that it's God's plan and it's just wherever he takes me with it."

Nathalie: "You know, finally, what do you love about this year's team so much? Seems like you guys have a lot of fun together." 

Liza: "I just feel like we just have like a big connection, like especially with the senior class, like just playing with them all three years and stuff, but I just, I love our team. I feel like we're so connected and we're always like supporting each other no matter what."

Nathalie: "Awesome. Well, you guys just went Beyond the Game with Liza Kemna. Liza, thanks for hanging out."

Liza: "Of course."
