Multiple Mid-Missouri athletes bring home hardware at day one of MSHSAA Track & Field Championships

Day one of the the 100th edition of the MSHSAA Track and Field Championships are a wrap out at Adkins Stadium, in Jefferson City, and multiple Mid-Missouri athletes came away with some hardware.

The two-weekend event got kicked off on Friday, as schools in class one through three competed to find the top steps on the podium.

Mid-Missouri came away with five gold medal finishes in day one, with almost all coming in the field events. Blair Oak's Tomas Gonzalez brought in the first gold medal in the class three boys pole vault, and was trailed closely by Fatima's Drew Riegel in second.

Fayette had an outstanding first day of competition, lead by a pair of athletes taking the top step. Carter Vroman set a new class two state record on his final throw to win the boys discus competition. Fellow Falcon Rylan Roberts was crowned champion in the girls long jump, winning the event by six inches.

Vienna's Aubrey Schwartze took the top step as the only mid-Missouri athlete from class one in the opening round of competition. Finally, Fatima's Brie Massman took home the only title from the area on the day, defending her half mile title from a year ago.

    • 8th Place: Peyson Bryson, Wesley Robertson, Lane Chancellor, Nolan Spickert - Centralia
  • Class 3 Girls' High Jump
    • 2nd Place: Elizabeth Giroux - Boonville
    • T-6th Place: Mikala Huckabee - Eldon
  • Class 1 Boys' Discus
    • 8th Place: Elijah Crum - Vienna
  • Class 3 Boys' Pole Vault
    • 1st Place: Tomas Gonzalez - Blair Oaks

    • 4th Place: Nolan Spickert - Centralia
    • 7th Place: Wesley Robertson - Centralia

The action will continue on Saturday, as more local stars look to hit the podium.
