Mizzou forward seeks additional year of eligibility, enters transfer portal

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A fourth player from the 2025-26 Mizzou men's basketball team threw his name into the portal, on Monday. However, this latest entry comes with a question that will need to be answered by the NCAA.

Tiger forward Jacob Crews confirmed a report from On3 on his Instagram account that he will be seeking a hardship waiver for an additional year of eligibility, but will also hit the portal. That request for a waiver stems from his 2021-22 campaign at North Florida, where he only played in nine games.

A hardship waiver is an official request that allows an athlete to regain a year of eligibility, following a season-ending injury or illness. Those nine games that Crews played for the Ospreys does keep him under the limit of maximum games a player can get into for a redshirt, which is no more 30 percent of the action.

For Crews, the move comes after he spent two seasons in Columbia. The Florida native was one of just four Tigers to appear in all 33 games for head coach Dennis Gates this season, including 11 starts. In that time, he averaged 8.4 points and 3.7 rebounds per game, leading the team with 56 made 3-pointers on 43.4 percent shooting from beyond the arc.

The 6-foot-8 forward was a part of two Tiger teams that made it to the NCAA Tournament, both in the 2024-25 season and the 2025-26 campaign.

Crews was already granted an additional year of eligibility in March of 2025 due to his time at the JUCO level and, of course, chose to return to Mizzou. The 25-year-old will now await the results of his latest request with the NCAA.

If he is granted an additional year, he will be looking for his fifth home, after spending time at North Florida, Dayton State College, UT Martin and Mizzou.
