Sunday Sit-down with KTGR’s Andy Humphrey

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

ABC 17 Sports Director Nathalie Jones brought on KTGR's co-host of 'The Big Show,' Andy Humphrey in this week's edition of Sunday Sit-down.

The two talked about both the Mizzou baseball team and softball team on Sunday night. The baseball Tigers avoided a sweep in the series against Texas A&M, but are still off to a 5-10 start in conference action. Humphrey said that the top of MU's conference schedule was very top heavy with nationally ranked talent.

"Right now Mizzou just isn't hitting the way that SEC teams should be hitting week-by-week and so you just have to make sure that you find more consistency during this second half of the season, so you can get back into those standings," he said.

Health has been a problem as of late for the Tigers, especially in the pitching staff. Humphrey said that is a point of concern moving forward for head coach Steve Bieser. He added you that you need a core of guys that can go deep into ball games.

"Mizzou just hasn't been able to find some consistency with their top guys to work into the fifth and sixth inning, consistently," he said. "I think that's the next step for that group. Can you find the players that you can rely on week-by-week to eat up the bulk of games?"

The two also talked about the up and down start to Mizzou softball's season, as well. The Tigers are tied up in the series against Ole Miss, headed into Monday night's rubber match. A victory would mark the first conference series of season for head coach Larissa Anderson and company.

Humphrey said making a regional still is not out of the question for the 25-19 Tigers. He added that MU doesn't have to blow teams out of the water, but it will need to chip away at some of these opponents.
