Firefighters battle outside blaze early Monday morning in Boone County

BOONE COUNTY, Mo. (KMIZ)

Boone County Fire Protection District firefighters are working to contain an outdoor fire near Route E early Monday morning.

ABC 17 crews on scene spoke to Boone County Fire Captain Adam Burks who said crews found two structures collapsed and engulfed in flames. Captain Burks said crews had to put out a grass fire as well and the fire was tall enough that embers spread to the trees that caused branches to catch fire.

It's possible that flames will be in the area for the remainder of the day, according to Captain Burks.

An alert from Boone County Joint Communications sent at 4:01 a.m. states that one lane of N Route E near the Boone County Fire Protection District's station 13 is shut down for a fire incident. They ask drivers to find a different route.

According to Boone County Fire Protection District Assistant Chief Gale Blomenkamp, fire units were dispatched to the area at around 3:45 a.m. with five responding units.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Fire marshals will be on scene later Monday morning.
