No. 1 Georgia rolls over Mizzou

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The effort from two Mizzou quarterbacks was not enough to top No. 1 Georgia at Sanford Stadium on Saturday afternoon, as the Tigers fell 43-6. The loss puts the Tigers at 4-5 this season.

MU struck first in the contest, courtesy of a 36-yard field goal from Harrison Mevis. However, the Tigers would only hold on to that lead for about five minutes. The Georgia offense began doing Georgia things, as quarterback Stetson Bennett connected with Arian Smith for a 35-yard touchdown to take the lead from Mizzou, 7-3.

From there on out, things got out of hand for the Tigers. Heading into the locker room at halftime, Eli Drinkwitz's group was down 26-3.

At halftime it was clear that Drinkwitz was sticking with his strategy of using two quarterbacks in freshman Tyler Macon and redshirt freshman Brady Cook. Macon got through one half with a total of 52 yards, with 43 of them coming on the ground. Conversely, Brady got his yardage in the air, going 5-5 for ten yards.

In the second half the Tiger offense could never get anything kickstarted. However, Kirby Smart's offense kept rolling.

The Bulldogs finished the outing with over 500 total yards of offense, with about 330 of those coming in the air.

As for the Mizzou offense - Cook finished 14-19 with 110 total yards. Macon went 6-13 with 74 yards in the air and 42 on the ground. Neither quarterback managed to get a touchdown on the board.

To make matters worse, kicker Harrison Mevis ended his field goal streak, as a 48-yarder hit the upright. Prior to that miss, Mevis had made 20-consecutive field goals. He restarted the streak with a 42-yard field goal in the fourth quarter.

Up next - Mizzou will return to Columbia to host South Carolina on Nov. 13.
