Voter registration event planned in Jefferson City ahead of November election deadline
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)
The Jefferson City NAACP plans to hold a voter registration event Wednesday ahead of the deadline to register to vote in the November election.
Organizers are set to hold the event at their downtown office at 111 W. High St. from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. Wednesday is the last day for Missourians to register to vote in the Nov. 8 general election.
"We want each voice to have an opportunity to be heard and our goal is to register every eligible person to vote," said Jefferson City NAACP Elections Coordinator Julie Allen. "It is through our vote that our families' safety, inequities, and disparities are addressed."
Potential voters at Wednesday's event can also expect to find information about what to bring to the polls and how to view a sample ballot.
November's election is the first in Missouri to use the state's new voter ID law. The new law changes what is accepted as a form of identification when voters show up at the polls.
Acceptable forms of IDs include:
- Non-expired Missouri driver or non-driver license
- Non-expired military ID or veteran’s ID card
- Non-expired United States passport
- Or any other nonexpired photo ID issued by the federal or state governments
The new law also includes an expansion to early voting to include a no-excuse absentee voting period.
