Richey announces state senate bid
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
State Rep. Doug Richey (R-Excelsior Springs) announced Tuesday night on his social media that he will run for the 21st District seat in the Missouri Senate.
Richey currently represents District 39 in the Missouri House, which is part of Clay County. He was first elected to that seat in 2018.
District 21 includes Cooper, Howard, Lafayette, Ray and Saline counties, as well as part of Clay County. The seat is currently held by Sen. Denny Hoskins, who will not be able to run for the seat in 2024 due to term limits.

Richey’s biography on the Missouri House website states he is a pastor, law enforcement chaplain and adjunct professor. He spent eight years in the Missouri Army National Guard as a combat engineer.
Richey has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Central Missouri, as well as three master’s degrees and a doctorate from Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, according to the bio.
Richey was the conference president for Missouri Baptist Convention Pastors Conference and is a member of the Excelsior Springs and Kearney Chambers of Commerce, the bio states.
He is the second person to throw their hat in the District 21 race. State Rep. Kurtis Gregory announced his intent to run last month.
