JEFFERSON CITY, Mo (KMIZ)

Jefferson City will be holding a press conference about the search process for the new city administrator.

At 10 a.m. Tuesday, the city will hold a press conference at the Courtyard Marriot in Jefferson City to provide an update on the search for a new city administrator. According to Ward 1 Councilman Jeff Ahlers, Mayor Ron Fitzwater has kept everything tight-lipped and the council will be finding out who was nominated Monday night during a closed session.

This comes after Steven Crowell stepped down from the position on April 17. Two people have filled an interim role since. City Attorney Ryan Moehlman was originally picked at the acting city administrator from April 17-May 15. Jefferson City Fire Chief Matt Schofield has since taken over responsibilities.

Last month, Jefferson City leaders said 39 people had applied for the position of city administrator.

One of the first presentations the council heard during Tuesday's meeting was the Stronghold Landing Housing Development Proposal. The council heard the same proposal last year.

The proposal included building 56 multi-family units on the west side of Jefferson City. A study from Central Missouri Community Action showed a need for housing.

The goal of the proposal is to build a building that could weather any storm rolling through Jefferson City in response to the 2019 tornado. This development will be considered workforce housing which means residents of all adult ages will qualify at varying income levels. A consultant and developer have been hired for the project.

HRM services will head up development. If approved, the project would break ground in 2024 and be complete before the 2025-26 school year.

Bird scooters have also been a hot topic of conversation over the last several City Council meetings.

Monday will be the last meeting over the scooters, by statute, the topic either has to be let go or moved on. Some of the hold-up is the virtual zoning for the scooters and finding a local contact, if any issues arise.

The discussion would be to terminate the current agreement with Bird. The agreement expires on Aug. 21.
