Repair project to close Columbia bridge in for two weeks in September
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Columbia Public Works is set to close both the driving lanes and the sidewalk on the East Boulevard Bridge starting Sept. 23 for repairs.
According to a news release, Concrete Strategies LLC, contractor for the City of Columbia Public Works department, will start repairs at 7 a.m. and work for the next two weeks, weather permitting.
A routine inspection done by the Missouri Department of Transportation revealed surface cracking on the bridge, according to the release. Further analysis confirmed there are no structural concerns but routing sealing maintenance was recommended to protect the integrity of the bridge deck.
The East Boulevard Bridge was built in 2017 and connects the Business Loop corridor to the Conley Road shopping center and provides eastern access to major highways.
The bridge will be closed for two weeks, this includes both driving lanes and the sidewalk.
Multiple message boards warning motorists of the closure will be placed around the area on Monday, Sept. 16. Drivers will be instructed to use Old Highway 63 and East Broadway to detour around the work zone.
The construction costs for the project are estimated at $173,745.50, with additional engineering costs totaling $17,500. Funding for the project comes from the quarter-cent 2015 Capital Improvement Sales Tax extension.
