Columbia Police investigating deadly crash on East Broadway
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Columbia Police are investigating a deadly crash that happened in Downtown Columbia Saturday night.
Brady L. Ewing, 55, died from a car crash Saturday night. The Columbia Police Department investigated the crash and determined that a 2019 Honda Civic driving west on East Broadway hit Ewing as he was walking in the road, according to a news release.
The Columbia Police Traffic Unit continues to investigate the crash.
Saturday night, East Broadway in Columbia closed for over an hour because of a car crash, according to Boone County Joint Communications. East Broadway between Garth Street and First Street closed around 6:40 p.m., according to Joint Communications, and reopened around 8 p.m.
According to a news release, Columbia Police responded to the crash, involving a car and a pedestrian, around 6:30 p.m. When on scene, first responders immediately starting helping an adult man who was hit with a car.
A viewer sent a photo to ABC 17 News showing EMS crews on scene appearing to treat a patient laying on the pavement. Several Columbia Police cars are visible in the picture.
Columbia Police ask everyone to take precautions when walking near roads, such as wearing high-visibility clothes. When driving, Columbia Police asks that you do not take your eyes off the road and be aware of pedestrians.
"If a crosswalk or intersection is not available, find a well-lit area of the road where you have a good view of traffic. Wait for a gap in traffic that allows enough time to cross safely, and then continue watching for traffic as you cross," Columbia Police said in a news release.
