Homelessness Taskforce discusses expanding temperature threshold to open overnight shelters

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Jefferson City Task Force on homelessness discussed plan on Thursday to further resources in Mid-Missouri.

The group was updated on what officials in Columbia are doing. One of the main focuses was making changes to Turning Point in Columbia, including a new contract for an overnight center and expanding the temperature threshold for when it can be open for both winter and summer.

4-A-Change is also looking to expand outreach and case management efforts. A Cole County judge who attended the meeting spoke about helping build a better community.

"I talked to those in my treatment court all the time about… we're better as a community if each individual member of the community is better,” Judge Cotton Walker said.
