The Columbia Fire Department responded to a house fire in the 5400 block of Baseline Place early Monday morning.

Fire Marshal Chris Gilstrap said the fire was caused by a lithium-ion battery in the trash. He emphasized the importance of disposing of lithium-ion batteries properly.

According to Columbia Fire Department spokeswoman Katherine Rodriguez, responding crews found an active fire that had burned the outside of a home and flames had entered the attic above the garage.

Firefighters got the fire under control in 10 minutes, according to Rodriguez.

No injuries were reported. All occupants were outside of the home when crews arrived, according to Rodriguez.

Gilstrap says the Red Cross is on the way.

An ABC 17 News videographer at the scene saw at least three Columbia Fire Department firetrucks, a fire department vehicle, and at least five Columbia Police Department vehicles near a home on the street.

Hose lines were stretched across the roadway as firefighters were seen using a ladder truck to investigate a part of the home's roof.

The scene was cleared just after 4 a.m.
